I hang out with the drug lords part 3

We woke up the next morning determined to get straight to work and get much work done. After breakfast we headed out to our job site again.

Having gone the year previous, we knew that there wouldn't be much work for the teenagers to do, so we took two buckets of paint with us along with brushes and rollers. Shortly after arriving and having nothing to do, our dear friend Marta, a local, found a house for us to paint. We walked up about two streets to a mans house. As we were arriving Marta warned us to be aware that the man was drunk quite often and would swear in English and Spanish. I never heard him swear, but I did feel a bit worried and self conscience while painting his house do to the few men around the house watching all of us paint with creepy looks on their faces. But don't worry because we finished the painting and as a result we were covered in paint.
(before//after)
After painting the mans house we went back to our job site and still had nothing to do. Luckily Marta knew of a sister who needed help leveling out land so that she could pour cement to start building a house, so we packed up the car and drove about 20 minutes to the site. Once there we hauled all the junk off the land and started shoveling and pic axing. Oh, and I failed to take a before picture. After being there for a couple minutes I found out that this family had two puppies. I found the puppies and just grinned from ear to ear because really what is cuter than two puppies? Nothing. I have been very educated and reminded over and over again to not pet or pick up the dogs in Mexico, but after a minute of staring and these babies I gave in and held them and snapped a couple pictures. They were the cutest things ever. Meet Cooper and Zeus.
After pulling myself away from Cooper and Zeus I went and shoveled some more dirt. Sunset was upon us meaning that we needed to pack up and head back to the church without our task being completed, but no worries guys, we went back the next day.

Once back at the church the festivities began. Last year's festivities was basketball and soccer, and this year was "Let's see who is man enough to try this spicy salsa." After most of us were done eating dinner I found all of my friends in a group around a cup full of salsa. As soon as I came into the circle everyone was telling me to "...try the salsa because it wasn't hot, but good." Well obviously I could tell that they were all lying because Mexican salsa adds a new meaning to the word hot, and I was sure this cup of salsa was no different. As everyone kept trying to convince me to try it I had to keep assuring everyone that I would not try it in a million years. After they stopped persisting that I try it, I added in with them in trying to get others to try it. After watching a few people, including the locals, try it and tear up, I decided that there was no way I was going to try it. Well my mind set soon changed and after much encouragement I finally tried it, and boy oh boy was my mouth on fire. Immediately after trying the salsa I ran through the church to find a cup of lemonade and tortillas. The food and drink helped a bit, but I was still in tears, and being the blonde that I am wiped by eyes with the finger I had dipped into the salsa. Yup, I'm just that smart.
