Thursday morning we arose early, and did what we could till materials came so that we could head to our work sites and get building. The first thing we did was organize all the donates. We opened all the boxes and separated them into different piles; One for toys, clothing, temple clothing (a temple is being built in Tijuana), missionary clothing, fabric for sewing, and kitchen accessories. Once put into their piles, many different projects starting happening. Some were organizing all the different clothes and setting up the sewing machines, while others fixed up all the bicycles that were donated.
While walking through the gym plenty of times I noticed something hanging from the ceiling. At first I didn't know what it was, but then I realized it was a chandelier with a cloth wrapped around it. I then came to the conclusion that they were trying to either reenact the Phantom of the Opera, or the Phantom of the Opera happened there; take your pick, I'm sure either one is true.Around noon the materials finally arrived. We packed up our trailer and headed to our job site. I was lucky enough to have a work site that was only 15 minutes from the church thus making the travel a lot shorter then others who had to travel up to an hour. We arrived at our site and met the couple that we were building the house for; Hermano Marquez and Hermana Marquez. They were so kind and helpful the whole week.
We unpacked the trailer and got started cutting wood right away.
We then went straight to work using our hammers, nail gun, measuring tapes, and chalk lines in order put up some walls. After much noise, the first wall was set up.
By the time the second wall was done, it was getting dark and we packed up and went back to the church. Again dinner was waiting for us as we arrived. After diner many of the local sisters came to the church to learn how to sew while everyone else sat around talking and playing games.
Geo, a local, brought some cupcakes for the couple that was in charge of the expedition. Apparently she had extras and let these two boys get there hands on some-literally their hands. As they walked past me, and I snapped a picture, they told me this is what they looked like after they had washed themselves with soap and water. I guess the cupcakes had some serious blue food coloring in them.
It was getting late, and everyone was ready for bed, so off to bed we went to wait for the next day of work.
